…………while taking care of some unfinished business.
My plan is set for my 2013 projects. Of course that does not mean that I will start and finish other projects but a couple of them are priorities.
Easter is in March this year (31st) so I have started smocking dresses for my two granddaughters. The dresses will have smocking on the collars, sleeves and fronts. Now you know why I am starting early.
I will continue to work on the perpetual applique quilt. What a victory it will be when it is finished.
Here are a few more blocks
My Inklingo project will be hand pieced with a twist. I will be making 2″ star blocks and putting them in a 9 patch for 6″ finished blocks. Yes, your calculations are correct. That is 1/2″ HST and 1/2″ squares to make the star patches. Along the way, I will be teaching myself to Trapunto. I have tried for a year to find a class or someone who would do that portion of the quilt as a joint project but no luck. As is the norm for me, I do mainly large reproductions, so I anticipate this to be my big project for the year (unless Inklingo releases another shape collection that I “just can’t refuse”!) I did a sample block on my old Bernina machine but I am not thrilled with the way it looks or the bulky seams on the back. It did not handle the tiny pieces very well. My newer Bernina has an automatic dual feed so I may try again with that machine to see if there is a difference in the accuracy of the piecing. Here is a photo of the rejected 6″ block. At this point, I will most likely hand piece the stars.
For the Trapunto part, I will need to enlist my son in law to sketch the motifs. He did one for me last year and it was perfect.
I hope your 2013 is starting off well an includes a little stitch time.
